What Happens on the Day?
Upon arrival at our BlueSky Venue, your team is welcomed as if it were a typical team building day. A senior member of our team delivers the welcome brief.
Suddenly, two expedition members, burst into the room dressed in outdoor gear. They explain that a team member is lost in severe weather conditions and it is your team's mission to form a search and rescue team to recover them.
A training dummy is dropped at a remote location on the farm or another remote area. Each team needs to locate the casualty, provide basic first aid, and safely transport them to the medical centre. Along the way, the teams encounter various obstacles and challenges, including bridge building and swamp crossings.
Session 1: Intelligence Gathering Teams must gather as much information as possible to form a rescue plan. Each team has the opportunity to debrief either Tim Bradshaw or Mike Hope. Specific details about the terrain, location, and medical condition of the casualty are only revealed if proper questions are asked. After the debrief, each team presents the intelligence they have gathered.
Session 2: Planning Teams have a set period of time to plan their rescue operation and discuss contingency plans. Topics to consider include actions on, contingency planning, decision making, and potential scenarios. Each team presents their plan and then bids for equipment using a budget. Basic trauma first aid techniques are also taught during this phase.
Session 3: Armed with their plans and equipment and accompanied by instructors, the teams set out to locate the casualty, facing obstacles along the way. This phase can be a timed competition between the teams.
Session 4: Once the casualty is found, teams utilise their first aid skills to stabilise them. They then construct a stretcher and plan their route back to the medical centre. Both teams can be brought together to race back to the base location.
The Debrief: The teams gather for a final "lessons learned" session. Tim Bradshaw and Mike Hope share their backgrounds and discuss real-life techniques used in challenging situations such as climbing Everest and Ukraine aid missions.
The day concludes with a team photo and a fun Prize Giving Ceremony.
